Examine a political cartoon that alludes to the novel Frankenstein, and then complete an analysis of the text features and content of the political cartoon using an adapted version of the "Cartoon Analysis Worksheet" from the National Archives.

1. Read the following background information about a political cartoon titled "The American Frankenstein," originally featured in 1874 in the New York Daily Graphic.

"The American Frankenstein," draws on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel about a monster that turns on its human creator. Inspired by Mary Shelley's novel about a man-made monster who turned upon its creator, this cartoon depicted the railroad trampling the rights of the American people.


2. Examine the political cartoon "The American Frankenstein" below.
